The Rider, bronze, H 95cm W 77cm D 28cm (SOLD)

Sharizal Koto
Born in Pariaman, West Sumatra, In September 1960. Studied at the Sculpture Art Dept. of the fine Arts at Indonesien Art Institute, Yogyakarta. The aesthetic deformation speaks volumes about the sculptor's skills and world view.
“I arrived at this visual style after years of struggling with various techniques and themes,” he said, adding that he deliberately deforms his object to emphasize their flexible nature. It is no wonder that all his objects - horse, rooster, and man - appear skinner and much more elongated than their true dimensions.

He has participated in more than 25 exhibitions across the nation and won five awards. Koto's sculptures clearly show the influence of Henry Moore (1898-1986), the famous English sculptor, and Italian artist Marino Marini.
